Situated at the base of the highest mountain on the island, Peter Both,Nandgaon is a shelter for cows at present, with future projects for a vedic village including Temple, social centre, ayurvedic clinic, dairy farm, organic agriculture, and library.
The project started with the determination of Surya Narayana das Prabhu, disciple of HH Krishnadas Maharaja, who bought the first cows destined to be slaughtered, and thanks to his salary of headmaster, and the help of other benefactors, cow lovers have now a place to go and see their pets. There are now 16 of them, gladly eating the fresh grass of the 8 acre plot that have been acquired recently, for fodder and gosala construction. His enthusiam for cow protection has been transmitted to many devotees of Mauritius, who now help him in his endeavour. However, such pets are not easy or cheap to keep, and three helpers are emlployed daily for looking after them:they soon abandoned meat eating, and are happy with the new job.
The place is ideal and sattvic, due to the presence of other temples in the area, including a Venkatesvara Temple and a Shiva Temple of La Laura village.
S.Narayandas at Pet Show,Rose Hill.
Go-puja or cow worship was held on the 2nd of November at the shelter, with the participation of about 400 guests. Sacred songs[kirtans],by Nrsimha Caitanya das, spiritual discourses, about cow protection, various services[yagnas] were held and a delicious feast was served to all.
An atmosphere of Vrindavan reigned during all the festivities, with laughing, dancing and singing devotees.
Regular harinams are held, with a cow present, and reports are that
people of all denominations, become enlivened by the pure presence of the innocent animal, and readily give donations. They sure will think more of the origin of their steak,at dinner time!
